Q: Is there a way to get good internet security software for 5 comps w/o breaking the bank?
I have 5 computers in the household. I want to know if there is a way to have all of them running reputable anti-virus software without spending hundreds of dollars thanks to the Internet Security mafia.

A: Look into your ISP, a lot of them - like Comcast - provide free McAffee or something of that sort. I know most all 56k lines do, and it's very rare to see something without anything at all. In case you do though, Get AdAware from Lavasoft and google up at least one other spyware removal tool - you may want to download and learn about Hijack This! so that you can post logs on websites and get people to help you out incase a hijack happens. Finally, you can download virus removal tools such as Avast Home Edition for free, or Sentinel 2.1 - they can take care of your viruses. Jetico Personal Firewall or Filseclab Personal Firewall are some of the top free firewalls at CNET downloads, and they can take care of that download stuff. A google search for "internet security" and or "secure my computer" will bring up some articles. Places such as About.com, CNET.com, PCWorld.com, will usually have really graet and easy to follow articles on how to remove services or do special tiny tweaks that further protect your computer from hacking. Take care, good luck

Q: What is the best FREE virus/internet security software available for download on the web?
I'm looking for the best internet security software which is available for free and can be downloaded from the internet

A: This question comes up a lot here, and I'm surprised Yahoo doesn't have it in their FAQ. However, I keep my answer handy. These are tools I can recommend as reliable, having tested all of them within the last two months. firewall: Comodo (http://www.comodo.com), or PC Tools (http://www.pctools.com/firewall), though Comodo will be a bit easier to use. antivirus: Avira (http://www.free-av.com) AVAST! Home (http://www.avast.com) AVG (http://free.grisoft.com) all provide realtime protection and automatic updates. antispyware: Spyware Terminator (http://www.SpywareTerminator.com) or Spyware Doctor (http://pack.google.com) either one will give you good, realtime protection, along with Ad-Aware Free (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_a... and Spybot S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/downl... for additional removal ability. Finally, a generic intrusion protection tool is a good supplement to the tools in the first three categories. The best one I've tested is System Safety Monitor Free edition (http://www.syssafety.com) which does a better job than most of the commercial intrusion prevention applications from major vendors.

Q: Where do I download antivirus and/or some security software from the internet?
I just bought a new computer and I want some FREE availalble anti virus or internet security software. What kind of software absolutely keeps my computer safe and where do i download it from the internet?

A: this group would be very useful to you. it has a lot of links to free ware and loads of other things you need to know pass it on to your friends antivirus and spyware programs, if you are looking for a free antivirus and spyware, well I have been using these two for the last month or so, on a trial by myself, and so far, they are as good as any, that I have tried, if not better, since installing them they have picked up any and all known viruses and spyware. The spyware impressed me, when I installed a torrent tool bar, that was full of spyware it not only removed the spyware it removed the tool bar as well, which impressed me. The two programs are AVAST home and SPYWARE TERMINATOR; I would recommend these two programs to protect your systems. The first link is avast antivirus http://www.download.com/Avast-Home-Edition/3000-2239_4-10721010.html?tag=topic This is the link for spyware terminator http://www.download.com/Spyware-Terminator/3640-8022_4-10689834.html?tag=lst-0-1 This is the link to a group that I have started for myself but I think it will be of future use to everyone that wants to join http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/arc_pc_clinic/ If you go to this group you will find a lot of information to help you with your pc This group is new and will be updated with new topics on a regular intervals you have to join to take add vantage

Q: Do you need to update windows security updates if you install another internet security software?
I have windows vista OS and have installed Trend Internet Security 2008. I switched off the windows firewall, but windows keeps prompting me to install other components.

A: Trend Micro offers a comprehensive package, but Windows still needs updates to be installed to patch security flaws within the OS. Obviously. this also depends upon what Windows is prompting you to install, but any updates / patches MUST be applied which will enhance your security and stability.

Q: Why does my computer slow down dramatically after instalilng an internet security software? Look at details.?
I have a 2.4ghz quad core computer with 3gb ram and 320gb hard drive. After I install any Internet security software such as Kaspersky (the most annoying one ever) or Norton, my computer slows down a lot. Why does this happen. I dont' have junk on my computer.

A: Security software continuously scans your hard drive and your internet connection for malware. This eats up a lot of resources, particularly with the big-name brands like the two you mentioned, who insist on adding useless "bloatware" to their programs to make their features list longer. My suggestion would be to get NOD32 as it doesn't eat up so many resources. However, if you know what you're doing, you can go along quite happily without any security software running. For example, on my Vista laptop, I just use the Windows Firewall, make sure I keep Windows up to date, and use Mozilla Firefox with the NoScript extension and I have absolutely no problems with viruses or slowdowns as a result of the security software designed to block them.

Q: the best antivirus and internet security software?
What is the best anti-virus and internet security software?

A: Definitely Kaspersky. Hourly updates, check reviews. Free trial, it's the best. regards, Zyfert

Q: What is the greatest internet security software?
I'm looking for an internet security. What is the greatest internet security ever known to mankind? free or not free

A: Its not software, its hardware. Learn to configure your router and only allow in traffic that you want to allow in. Such as web services and maybe AIM chat (or yahoo, whatever you use) After that all you have to do is make sure your browser and any other services you set up on your router all have their most recent updates. **NOTE THIS IS THE PERFECT SOLUTION** on top of this don't download stuff from places you don't trust or aren't trusted within the internet community. (Common sense stuff) If you follow those 3 simple rules you don't EVER have to worry about security flaws unless some MAJOR bug Comes along and ONLY EFFECTS one of the services you run AND THERE ISN'T AN UPDATE FOR IT. It is VERY rare that exploits come out for security flaws (for Microsoft) that they haven't found yet themselves. What happens is Crackers/Hackers download the same security patches you do, decompile the file to view its source code (typically in ASM) then they can see what the patch fixed, thus once they know how the fix works they can take a good crack at how to exploit what the patch was for. Don't bother using software AV its a TOTAL WASTE, all of it. Security Software is only as good as its definitions. If I code a Trojan or a server file and find a way to upload it to your computer, OR I find a security hole and don't make it public. The AV wont ever know about it, nor will they be able to write a fix for it because its not a public exploit. Again I circumvent these software AV's and firewalls ALLLLL the time in both lab and real world settings. Remember these 3 rules again and you won't ever have to worry about being Hacked/Cracked 1.) Learn how to use and configure your router to only allow the traffic you want in and out 2.) Update any programs that connect to the internet weekly (daily checks for updates would be even better) 3.) Know what you're downloading. Don't download things from people and or websites that you don't deem trustworthy.

Q: Is any internet security software essential?
I'm pretty sick and tired of Norton Internet Security. It's always running and slowing down my laptop. How likely is it that a hacker will get into my computer if I don't have any firewalls or a virus will mess up my files if I don't have an antivirus software?

A: It's almost garunteed that you'll get a virus or some form of malware if you run your computer without protection. If you're looking for 'ligher' alternatives, try Avast Antivirus, or AVG. Windows default firewall is pretty good, so you can just use that. As for adware and spyware, try Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy. All of these are free, and a lot quicker than Norton, though they may not be as good. Personally, I use Norton on one computer and Avast on the other.
