If that's not what you mean should have asked a mose sensible question. and asking it 4 times DOES NOT make it more sensible or more answerable.

So currently I am a network technical support engineer. My interest is to get into Network / System Security .. However I am not getting proper breaks. So should What should I do..
1.) Continue job as network engineer and then move to network security
2.) Move to Software Development.

Q: What is the best security minded hardware and software for a LAN Network?
The network has internet access and has around 80 employees..
switches, routers, servers, antivirus, firewalls.. etc
A: First of all, if you listen to Joseph you'll have a "home-quality" network for 80 people. If there are that many employees, then the CFO will know the difference between an expense and an investment when it comes to spending money. If you want anything free, then get out of the business of being in business. If you want good equipment, then start with these basics...
Anti-virus: AVG? Not for a business. The free version is for home use only. Symantec corporate or Trend Micro is the only way to go here.
Switches: 3com superstacks or Cisco catalyst.
Routers: You won't need one for just 80 people. The ISP will supply the router with the leased line, which, by the way, should be a T1...not DSL. This is a business, after all.
Servers: Depending on what you are doing, iSeries IBM or Windows 2003 Standard. If you don't have the expertise in IBM (you really have to know IBM servers...I mean...REALLY know them), then the Windows 2003 will work. Get familiar with GPOs.
Firewalls: Zone Alarm? Why would you try to block unwanted traffic to your computer by letting unwanted traffic into your computer so you can check the unwanted traffic and then block it before it gets to your computer...or...wait...it's already in your computer now...I think....
Hardware firewall is the only way to go. No discussion, not debate on this one. If you're looking at a cheap Linksys, Netgear, etc., then get out of the business and build you a neat little home network.
Juniper, Sonicwall, or Cisco. That's the only way to go. Personally, I would go with the Cisco ASA5505 with the unlimited user bundle. It's about 1K, but it's worth it. 8-port switch with 2 of them power-over-ethernet, full firewall capabilities, VPNs, remote access for business partners. You can go from no configuration to VPN in 15 minutes.
Stay away from the cheap junk. You get what you pay for. If you're in business, then spend the money to secure your business. Free is alright for home use, but has no place in business. Everyone wants free this and free that. Cheap and free = trouble.
Q: What is nessus-looking for security software?
for a 4 computer network in a small business.
I need to know about all the security (in really basic terms) that you would need for a small business and need some software to recomend that does all that. any sites that explain everything you need would be greatly appreciated?
oh and i found this site that said something called Nessus is the best security for networks, what exactly is it and does it cover everything i need?
http://sectools.org/
A: Nessus is a network vulnerability scanner.
Basically through a series of "plug-ins" and attack scripts, you attempt to compromise computers in YOUR network as a proactive security measure. These test will show you what exploits your network is vulnerable to, so that you may (hopefully) patch the problem services / machines before someone else discovers the vulnerability.
Nessus also gives you the choice between performing a regular non-destructive security audit on a routinely basis, or to throw everything you can at a remote host to see how will it withstands attacks from intruders. Its always a good idea to have a written statement authorizing your activities before beginning, so when you inadvertantly crash the server during peak hours you are covered.
Depending how much time you have to learn the tools / how mission critical the server is, you may want to have a look at BackTrack2.

It is superior to Nessus in many ways, although it does require an intermediate user ability in Linux.
Q: What software is used to on networks for security?
what software is used to on networks for security? is it the same a home users? norton or AVG?
When i say networks i dont mean home networks. i am talking about corporation networks
A: It all depends on the preference of the busines owners. And don't forget McAfee either.
Q: Network Security!?
In my house there is a total of 3 pc's. My mom wants to check web browsing histories and block pronographic websites on all three! Is there a good software or way to control network activity from one pc? Thanks!
A: The best way would be to set up a proxy server that logs every website and image that is loaded. She can then go back and look at what you have been up to. I recommend squid, it is a little difficult to configure, but it is very powerful. There are many tutorials for basic setups like what you are describing.
Q: How do I retrieve my network security key?
I can't connect to the Internet any more, because my security key got deleted somehow. And I can't find the software on my computer, not sure if I even had any that has the security key. How can I get my key now? I can go to network properties and see it but it's not shown.
Help please?
Thanks
A: Hi,
You may be able to get the key. You will need to log onto the router using a wired connection - that is, connect an ethernet cable from your computer to one of the ports on the router. Then log into the router by opening internet explorer and entering
http://192.168.1.1 on the address line (assuming you didn't change the router's IP address. ) When you get the login screen, leave the username blank and enter "admin" for the password (again assuming you didn't change the password).
Now you have access to the setup program and should be able to see the key if it is displayed. However, it is possible that the key is displayed as *******, in which case you will need to provide a new key.
Go to the Wireless menu then go to security and create a new password.
It'd be easy, you'll see.
Good luck!

Q: How do i secure my wirless network when my software is not playing ball?
am using a speedtouch transmitter and linksys receiver. win xp pro.
when i set up security through the software provided it says it cannot connect to the network and just does nothing, litraly, but will connect with no security present. and im sure someone is pilfering it, dam them. help please? and no answers of "i dont know sorry" you dirt points earners.
A: The software provided with the routers and wireless routers out there do not help much with security. To secure and encrypt your wireless internet you will have to access the router and change the settings in it's program. It is very easy and done as follows. To access the router click the start button and click the run option. From there type in cmd. A black window will pop up, In that window type ipconfig and hit enter. Look for where it says "Default Gateway" Type that number that it gives you into your internet explorer address bar and it will open your router. In the options it gives you there should be a wireless security option. Click that and may ask you for a login password, if it does leave it blank and submit it. From there you can encrypt your wireless signal. Be sure to put the password it gives you into your computers that are using wireless or you will not be able to access your own internet once you encrypt it.
Q: How can i install Magnetic Swipe Card System Security in my house with local area network? hardware software?
A: This could be a start:

But I'm not sure about network connectivity. I would contact Smarthome directly about options.
Q: is there software that will block a computers network access unless security parameters are first met?
Not firewall. I'm looking more for something that will stop all network traffic unless, for instance, a users virus software defs match a certain level
Soemthing similar to Citadel's ConnectGuard software, but am looking for different software to compare features, usability, etc.
A: do you mean a firewall???
