Q: security software?
what is the best free antiviral security protection software? i used to have norton internet security and it worked fine until the subscription ran out. i doubt that there will be one as fine and easy to use as norton but if you can list one, it will be greatly appreciated. thank you so much!

Q: What is the best security software and the most reasonably priced for my Dell Inspiron 600m laptop?
Im asking 2 questions: 1st What do you think is the best security software to buy for Dell laptops Inspiron 600m bought2004 that will not disturb connection or harm my laptop hard drive.
A: I would suggest AVG 8.0 Free Edition. Although it is free, it has powerful detection system-include Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, E-Mail Scanner, Link Scanner and Resident Shield. I currently have Verizon Yahoo On Line Security with Norton antivirus. I think I saw somewhere that in December this is no longer going to be available. Is there any really good security software (for viruses, email, etc.) that is free?
A: You have mentioned the term "Free", so I know my suggestions won't be the best, but they sure are a lot good.
Meaning security, you will need all kinds of security functions. Note: I will mention just all of the free items here.
First of all, you will need to check for things that make internet browsing unsecure. Don't worry, I will suggest you ways for which you don't have to pay a penny !!!

Q: What is the best security software for Windows Vista?
I used to have ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 7 and AVG Anti-Virus Pro in my previous Windows XP. Now, I'm currently using Kaspersky Internet Security 7 in my new Windows Vista. Is this a good choice for Vista or can anybody suggest a better security software?
A: Norton Internet Security (or the brand-new Norton 360) work very well with Vista and come out well in tests. If you live in the US near a CompUSA, you'll notice a very attractive offer for Norton Internet Security for $4.95. That has everything: anti virus, forewall and spyware protection.
I just don't have good experiences with McAfee (it is slow and buggy) but some people like it. Kapersky does not work well (yet) with Vista.
Windows Defender (free) for Vista (or a free download for XP) is a decent product that catches most evil and shows what is in your startup, what is running, and if any of that is suspicious. But you need antivirus in addition to that.
If you get internet through a router, that gives some protection in addition to the firewall. Vista has a firewall for incoming and outgoing traffic (the XP firewall only for incoming).
Be careful with running multiple firewalls or multiple spyware catchers. They can conflict and slow down your system.
Vista has turned out so far, in months of tests, to be more resistant to virus, spyware, and trojans than XP. You still must have at least an antivirus package.

What is the meaning of encryption (to all the IT people). I work for a security software company. and can't really understand why we can't send certain software to Pakistan. The software company is american.

Q: How do I access my security software?
Stupid question probably, but I'm totally computer illiterate, and my security settings are so high right now that I can't download anything, msn, limewire, nothing. I need to reconfigure them, but can't figure out how to access my software? Its a microsoft thing, that much I know.
A: Start->Control Panel
Look for the security icon & click on it. Opens windows security.
You might also try this::
On explorer, look at the top, find Tools. Click on it, then the security tab. Click on restricted sites icon, then the Sites button below it will light up. Look & see if any sites of those are there. Or you could click on the Trusted Sites icon and Sites button, and add those to your trusted sites.
btw are you sure there isn't some kind of parental control software or blocking software on your computer, hm
Q: Unwanted web site keeps popping up to renew old security software how do I stop it?
I change from CA security software thru Yahoo to Norton thru Yahoo but CA keeps opening my browser to renew there software and I can't figure out how to stop it.
A: CA is a virus not an anti virus, their AV suite cannot be trusted nor their business practices.
Go to CA's website, locate on-line or contact them (phone) for the uninstall tool for the AV version you had installed. Your pop-up is some garbage inside your system registry and NO registry cleaner will find it or delete it. I recommend you get the tool from CA or take your PC into a independent repair shop to have the registry massaged.
By using a registry cleaner or having a novice work in the registry you take a good chance of rendering your PC a paperweight.

Q: What's the best security software for my laptop?
The free trial of my McAfee Security Center has just run out. I've been quite happy with its performance so far, but was looking to buy a new one-year subscription from Amazon and the reviews were atrocious! I don't mind buying some security software, but what's the best to get? Thanks.
A: If you have Windows XP, just get a copy of Norton Antivirus 2006. Windows XP has a firewall that gets the job done, and with the help of free software programs such as AdAware SE and Spybot Search and destroy, Norton can easily keep your computer safe from virus threats. McAfee is a pretty crappy program.

A: I have Folder Lock on my Flash Drive. It doesn't lock the entire thing just the things that I want, It's put into a folder and .. well locked. It's free to try and like after 30 days it expires and you have to buy it, But I've had mine for about 3 months now and it hasn't expired.
Q: I was advised to change from norton to Mcafee security software was this a sensible idea to speed up my PC?
A software Engineer repairing my PC at home said that it was all the Norton software installed on my computer that was part of the problem in causing its sluggish performance.

A: norton dose make your computer extremly slow, like it's on valium or somethink. lol
I had mcafee and had the same problem, it was extremly complicated to set up, run a scan or find anythink in there hundreds of menu's.
the only one's that i would reccomend, and have had for many years (tried mcafee a few weeks ago though) are AVG or Avast and both are completely free and you can download them from www.download.com
i would also reccomend getting a firewall, Zonealarm is great! and free!
you will notice the performance diffrence with these once you get rid of norton.
I used to use both Avast and AVG at the same time, and never had any sluggishness like with norton or mcafee.
if you dont know which to choose i would go for AVG as you dont have to register, Avast is better but you have to register, and get a new licence key every year, but it is free to do all that.
