Q: Where can I access computer security software evaluations?
I currently use AOL but feel that the software overhead with their security is slowing my computer down measuably. I want most efficient security! JIM

A: Snapfiles is also a good safe download site that has user reviews as well. I think you're going to find a lot of security type applications do impact performance. As example, on my notebook, I can't run certain programs as they just take too many resources.

Q: What computer security software do you use?
Do you use anti-virus software? And do you use it in combination with anti-spy/adware software? And what would you recommend? Are anti-hijacking apps also necessary?

A: i use the following: nod32 antivirus adaware for the adaware ashampoo for the spyware ccleaner to clean the computer and my computer is perfect. nothing wrong with it.

Q: Where can I find a Good Free Computer Security Software?
U know to protect the computer from virus and nasty stuff like that!

A: These are tools I can recommend as reliable, having tested all of them within the last two months (I love my drive imaging software!) firewall: Comodo (http://www.comodo.com), or PC Tools (http://www.pctools.com/firewall), though Comodo will be a bit easier to use. antivirus: Avira (http://www.free-av.com) AVAST! Home (http://www.avast.com) AVG (http://free.grisoft.com) all provide realtime protection and automatic updates. antispyware: Spyware Terminator (http://www.SpywareTerminator.com) or Spyware Doctor (http://pack.google.com) either one will give you good, realtime protection, along with Ad-Aware Free (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_a... and Spybot S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/downl... for additional removal ability. Finally, a generic intrusion protection tool is a good supplement to the tools in the first three categories. The best one I've tested is System Safety Monitor Free edition (http://www.syssafety.com) which does a better job than most of the commercial intrusion prevention applications from major vendors.

Q: Will these computer security software react with each other negativly?
Okay, i have avast pro, pc tools antispy doctor, threatfire, and pc tools firewall plus running at the same time. i was wondering if these four softwares will make do something to each other badly. Like i have heard that two anivirus's running at the same time isnt good, but what about these?

A: Shouldn't be too much of a bother to each other. The only reason two antivirus programs running on the same system is bad is because of the shear amount of system resources they use individually gets combined and drasitcally affects computer performance. Running that many security softwares can negatively affect your performance, but sacrificing a little performance for security is often a good tradeoff to some.

Q: What is a good computer security software program OTHER than Norton McAfee?

A: For Free is AVG download here http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html?tag=pop.software&cdlPid=10861654 And for to buy this AVG Internet Security Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, Anti-Spam, Web Protection & Firewall Comprehensive protection for Windows against all online threats from the world's most trusted security company. Q: What's the best computer security software for consumers?

A: Spyware and Norton

Q: where would I find consumer recommendations for computer security software?
Has anyone heard of INVISUS?

A: I would check epinions.com first... Never believe anything that the company who wrote the program tells you.

Q: Computer Security Software question?
I have a question on which one is the "best" of all kind? Where do each of you check up (website or any source of information) how each security software performs? Including Firewall, Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware as minimum, but the more additional function the better. I had product review in relate to Norton 360 and the source said its the best, however im currently looking for any more issues like performance impact, compatability issues and all else. (Some claims Norton always have a bad case on performance impact and stability on computer) To conclude this topic, which one should be the best of all opinion?

A: I use norton 360

Q: My computers security software keeps notifying me of "an intrusion attempt on my computer" Is this normal?
Ive had this software installed on my computer since last year and have never had this message before, but in the last 4 hours I've been sent 4 messages about 4 seperate "intrusion attempts" that were all blocked. Is this normal?

A: that's your firewall, you are being "ping"ed. no worries as this means your firewall is working fine, you can go to your firewall settings and choose not to be notified everytime it's blocked, because if you have a broadband internet access with your own ip address you are going to pinged a lot.

Q: my computer thinks i dont have any security software even though i do.?
i own vista and it is saying that i need to get software for security. my computer already has mcafee. anything i can do to make it know i have software?

A: Maybe the version you got is not compatable with Vista, there are so many programs still not compatable with Vista. Try updating (maybe there is a later version of McAffee) it. Or re-installing McAffee if the first options doesn't work. Might be a good idea to ask for support form McAffee. I had the same problem with my antivirus software and calling the security company helped me solve this problem.

Q: How do i get rid of live updates from my security software on my computer?
I just had antivirus xp 2008 but cleaned it up with windows live one care. A pop up keeps coming up that says Security alert from Symantec with a warning saying that my computer is at risk in the following areas: Virus protection is out of date and firewall protection is turned off. then i press ok and it pops up again. how do i fix this?

A: Not exactly sure you what are asking but i see you are running more them one anti virus at once which is not good. Yes live update is part of Norton if that's the one you would like to remove . To completely remove all of Norton from you system you will need the Norton removal tool because Norton is one of them hard to remove windows programs. Just do a search for the Norton removal tool in your search engine it is very easy to find. Good luck.

Q: which job field is better computer networking and security or computer software engineering?
I kinda just started school and I don't want to be caught in the wrong field where i cant find a good job. I'm looking to be in a field where when i get out of school i will be making at least 50,000 and easy to go up from there. I want to work in the computer field though. So if anyone could help me out I would like that. Thanks

A: First relax - Join the club of folks that had a hard time deciding their life's pursuit. I had the same problem many years ago. I would advise you to stop thinking about what job pays the best, what job your friends think is really hot or what job you have read about in the newspaper is really in demand. Obviously you don’t want to train for some career to be repairing typewriters or repairing a gasoline clothes washer – that is to train for something that will not exist when you graduate. You may have gifts and abilities that are different from your friend’s. Be sure you are not climbing the ladder of career success only to find out it is leaned against the wrong building. It might be the building your parents wanted or that your friends suggested. You must find what is best for you. My parents were heartbroken I didn’t want to be a doctor. They would have gladly helped to pay for that education. The only problem was I faint at the sight of blood. If you are sitting there about to enter college or already taking classes you are probably in your early 20’s. By the time you are 50 or 60 that hot job will no longer be hot. You will probably have to adapt and retrain several times. Don’t be concerned you are making a career decision that locks you into something for a lifetime. You aren’t! The important thing for you to do at this point is to complete your degree. Many employers don't care what your degree is in but that you have one. A degree says to an employer that you are teachable and can finish what you start. These are two very important qualities because most employers plan to retrain you anyway. Much of the information you get in a college textbook in your field is out of date by the time the book is published and makes it way into the classroom. Employers plan to show you their way of doing things so again what you have learned up until you enter their doorway is not as important as you having demonstrated your teach-ability. If you are unsure what to do, I would suggest you select a major of something general that you can complete in as fast a path as possible: Education, Journalism, English or something along those lines. One way to find out what you like is to do some volunteer work. Most churches, hospitals, senior centers, animal shelters and other similar groups have volunteer programs. This will help you meet interesting people and may help you decide what you like. Also, volunteer work is looked very favorably by employers when they look at your resume. It tells them you will go above what is expected. Remember that you will likely change your career several times in your lifetime as you change and your needs or desires change. I was a campus minister for 8 years, a retail manager for 19 years and have been a computer engineer for 11 years. Best wishes.

Q: where can i find free computer security software?

A: Here you have a list with some good and free programs: http://askcomputerexpert.ws43.com/download.html

Q: Am I using adequate security software on my computer?
I have been performing frequent banking trasactions over the web for some years and never had any problems. I'm currently using my Vista Security suite along with Avast antivirus. Any suggestions about improving the security of my computer and online transactions?

A: keep your anti-spyware and anti-virus updated, + a firewall. also it would be good to ensure that the servers you are using w/ the transactions are encrypted, also would be a good idea to have verisign or some other phishing filter to ensure you are on a legit site. also common sense works wonders! by the way, another tip is to not check "remember my password" on your pc, and use strong passwords and security questions with your accounts, and not to use the same passwords. change 'em regularly. only do transactions with trusted sources also, don't have any sensitive personal information stored on your pc, also would be a good idea to be enrolled in an ID protection program. good luck

Q: What are my best options for free security / computer virus detection software?
I currently use the free AVG anti-virus software. Thanks ahead for your time and expertise.

A: These are the programs I use on my computer and I have never had a problem that these programs have not caught in almost real-time: ANTI-VIRUS Avast home edition is what I use. It scans the system actively (it scans things downloaded to your computer and will almost instantly detect malware) Get it at http://www.avast.com/ ANTI-SPYWARE As for spyware and other small problems most anti-virus programs miss I use spybot search & destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/downl... which catches tracking cookies, registry changes, and malicious software often missed by avast and norton. SITE ADVISOR To keep me out of sites that contain malicious software I use McAfee Site Advisor (http://www.siteadvisor.com/) which will warn you if you travel to a questionable page. FIRE WALL For a firewall I use Comodo Firewall (http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/)... These work together to cover almost all the holes that could be exploited in your computer. DISK CLEANUP This is not a anti-virus program, but I do find it handy. To free up space on my hard drive, and keep it running smoothly, I use CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/) which deletes all the files that have been abandoned or are not necessary for you computer to function. Many programs save a lot of extra files that they will never use to your hard drive. This program also cleanse your registry of all broken paths and DLLs that have accumulated over time.
