Q: Security Systems?
I am thinking of having a home security system installed. So many are listed. Curious what others pay for theirs. Which Company do you like? What are the costs per month? As much information as possible would be before I contact a saleman.

A: You may want to consider going to ADT, I used to install for them, the reason I say this Is because the monitoring of your system is the most important aspect of the reliability, ADT's monitoring Is done through an Actual fortified building, That could withstand somewhat of an actual attack, that's because ADT is the oldest and Biggest alarm co. (A.K.A. American District Telegraph, that's how they got started as a business)

Q: What kind of security systems do psyciatric wards/insane asylums have?
I am wondering what kind of security systems are used in psychiatric wards, specifically for people deemed possibly dangerous. What if they are young kids/teens? Are they subjected to tight security along with the adults? What are the living conditions?

A: My brother was in a state hospital from age 18 untill his death when he was 35. Only dangerous peoples are locked up. It's not a prison so he was allowed to walk around the grounds. He could only leave the grounds with permission, and that was when we picked him up for the weekend. Unless they comitted an act of violence, they could generally walk on the grounds. There was no lock in gate around the area. However if he left the grounds, he went to lock up. I believe they had cameras, but I never seen them.

Q: How do security systems at wal-mart work?
At Wal-mart and other retailers, there are the security systems by exits that you must walk though - and beep when a device is not deactivated. I know there are metallic devices in popularly stolen items that are deactivated by cashiers, but how exactly do these actually work? What do the cashiers do to deactivate them, and how to the security systems recognize items not deactivated? Just find them interesting, and i'm frustrated walking through them every day without understanding how they work. Thanks.

A: Today's ur lucky day. I used to work at Wal-Mart. First of all, the doors are a mental deterrant. Say you walk thru the door, the alarm goes off, and you don't have anything that would cause it to do so. The door greeter still cannot accuse you of stealing and still must let you go on the way. It's only when you boldly have something that is not on a receipt that they can stop you. When the door does ding and the door greeter is writing stuff down, it is the number on the digital reader atop the door. Then when she asks to see the receipt she basically needs it to write down the lane and cashier number.. that way if a cashier sucks at deactivating, she will get in trouble. So it uses shame to keep people from stealing. Now the truth. Walmart has drastically cut down on its loss prevention program. In the store I used to work in there were THREE LP people for the whole store. Research at Walmart says that 40 percent of theft is employees. These LP people basically watch the employees. Sometimes they watch customers. Note.. you know when you see a person that works at Walmart staring at you.. they are not trying to catch you stealing. If they see you stealing they can't do anything about it. The only way you will get caught stealing and prosecuted is A. you steal over 50 dollars worth and B. you are being watched and documented by LP the whole time. Walmart stopped prosecuting for theft under 50 dollars cause they bugged the local police left and right. That's about it. You see alot of theft at walmart and lots of innovating ways, but when the company does not enforce basic theft rules they get what they deserve.

Q: Where can I find TSA screening security systems that are life size?
I'm looking for TSA items for a party. It's a plane/flying in the air; theme, and the people are going to go thru security systems, just like the real ones in the air port. Do you know where I can buy them? I'm mostly looking for the one security system that you have to walk thru. Please help me out. Thank you so much if you do!

A: You want to buy a walk through metal detector for a party? You can find them here. http://www.supermetaldetectors.com/walk-through-metal-detectors-c-25.html You must throw great parties, can I come?

Q: What are some potential weaknesses/vulnerabilities to electronic security systems?
Other than power outages or cutting power to the system, what are some weaknesses that could be exploited and how could they be fixed/avoided? I'm talking things like alarm force, wireless security systems, electronic locks.

A: Assuming your system is connected to a monitoring station, there is always the possibility of human error on the dispatcher's end, and of someone onsite knowing your password and saying "Everything's OK, the password is X, no need for police." Sometimes if your emergency dispatcher is especially bright (not), they might allow themselves to be persuaded that the person onsite is OK to be there, even though they don't have a password. It's rare and not correct protocol, but I have seen it happen occasionally ("Well, they said they were a cop, so I didn't dispatch on it!" Cutting power to the system doesn't usually disable the system. All systems nowadays have battery backups, and when it kicks on, it will send a signal to the dispatch office and the alarm system's owner will get a phone call to let them know. Cutting the battery will also send a signal to the dispatch station to let them know the system has been powered off. Even cutting phone lines will send a signal to the dispatchers, in some cases. Alarm systems in homes, in my opinion, are more trouble than they're worth. You couldn't pay me enough to have one!

Q: What's a good security systems that won't slow my computer, at least not too much?
I just asked a question about my Norton firewall blocking my internet access and got some great answers. Mostly people suggested I get one of the other security systems available. The problem is, I used other security systems in the past and had them slow my computer down terribly. I was wondering if anyone knows of one that won't slow down my computer very much if at all.

A: Below can help you speed up your pc: 1. Click Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools – run Disk Cleanup 2. Temporarily close Quick Launch: Right-click on the Taskbar, click Toolbars, deselect Quick Launch 3. Open My Computer Right-click on C: Click Properties Click Tools, select Error Check (check all and fix), when finished click defrag & run. 4. Click Start, Run ipconfig -renew (type ipconfig space renew) 5. Restart. Right-click on Taskbar, click Toolbars, select Quick Launch to restore All these things should be done regularly. The more frequently they are run, the less time they take. -Note: Games and videos are mostly graphics. Graphics create large files. If these suggestions don't help, you might need more memory. Last, if you haven't cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key. That key needs your PC's resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Does a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it. http://toptenantispywareviews.com/RegComputerSlow_why.htm

Q: I want to work on CCTV –Security Systems and Access Control Systems what qualifications do I need?
I have done diploma in software application and I have a good knowledge of computer hardware and software trouble shootings. Now I have interested to work on Security Systems-CCTV and access Control Systems. Can anyone suggest me what should have to study more to join this filed?

A: You may be okay with the experience you have. But your best bet would be to take an Alarm Systems Technician college program and graduate with a diploma. Check your nearest colleges websites. The program is usually under a year and the diploma will add to your knowledge when applying for a job. Not sure why you'd want to do this. It's some confusing work. But hey if that's what you want then go for it. :)

Q: What other security systems do I need to install on my COMPUTER in order to be fully protected?
I have downloaded Yahoo Anti-Spy. Do I need to have other security systems installed such as Norton, McAfee, Webroot etc. in order to have my computor totally protected from hackers, I.D. theft etc.

A: You generally need at least an anti-virus, a firewall and an anti-spyware. I recommend AVG Free, AdAware Free and a firewall software of your choice. For best free firewalls see : http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-firewall.htm

Q: Any other good security systems besides Brinks or ADT?
I am moving into a new home that already have a security system installed, I just want to activate it. Who should I use? I have heard of Brinks and ADT but have no idea if they are good. Any suggestions? Or should I stick with Brinks or ADT? Thanks!

A: To be honest it depends on the level of security system you have. None are better than the particular person you have at the call center and how they handle the situation. There are a few companies that guarantee a certain response time. I would go with them.

Q: Are home security systems really effective?
We are having a home security system installed tomorrow...I'm wondering if they are really effective? Do they really deter burglars? Should I feel 100% safe when I go to bed with my alarm on?

A: You bet they are - be sure the stickers are posted on your windows and they will deter a break-in. I've had 3 false alarms in the past 7 yrs. and by the time I reurned home (10 mins.) the police were here and they searched my house before they would let me in my door. It's worth $30 a month to know it's monitored by the security company and police!

Q: what are ways to sale home security systems besides door to door sales?
I sale home security systems door to door and am looking for ways to expand my market. i would love imput as to ways i can do so! thanks for your answers

A: internet

Q: Do you know anything about home security systems?
We are thinking about getting one for our house. I called ADT and they charge $630 for the installation alone! Protection One, on the other hand, only charges about $150. What's the difference? Is the security system worth the money? Is it a hassle? Etc?

A: You can install one yourself for less money. My security system cost about $20, a series of little battey-powered alarms on all the windows and doors. For $300 you can get a pretty darn nice system that will call the service for a monthly fee. If you can use a hand drill, consider doing some shopping and following the instructions. ADT is for old people who just want it done immediately and can pay. Get a no solicitor sign. Those people are usually casing neighborhoods for easy marks and looking in your living room to see what you have inside. There are other measures as well. Trim bushes, install yard lighting and/or motion detectors, put signs in trouble spots (my father had a warning:you are being recorded sign BEHIND his garage, which would have been a staging area for burglars given the layout. Neighbors and passers wouldn't see the sign, only trespassers). You can find a home security for dummies book for $10 and get some great ideas. Or just go to borders and read it over a few cups of coffee. Some people put police union stickers on their window, not sure if this helps, but it would make me think twice.
