Q: any suggestions on non alarm security systems i can use in my apartment building? i am leasing so i can't?
change the locks to something more high tech, i can't put a latch, chain, bar, etc, getting ADT or slomin's isn't feasible, are there any gadgets i can purchase without damaging property? the bottom handle doesn't allow for me to stick my key in further preventing someone from entering while i am asleep...the door knob is smooth surfaced from the inside...thanks! and no, i can't get a dog coz my building doesn't allow for pets!

A: Ima bit confused or maybe more concerned as why your land lord wuolnt allow you to change and up grade the locks.most apt I have lived in already had dead bolts and chain guards on them.I have even had all the locks changed before at my expense,and the only condition was that you provide the owner with a spare key. Is it in your lease that you cant make these IMPROVEMENTS.The benefits would not only benefit you buit also the owner,You have all the right to provide protection to yourself and your belongings.A lot of hardware stores plus places like radio shack do sale audible alarms,as already been mentioned.There are several types.Some just have an adhesive backing that stick to surface and are basicly a magnetic type of connection mathching two parts and when that conection is broken it causes an alarm to sound.There are some that just hang over the door knob and works off motion if door is pushed open it causes the alarm to sound sort of like a motion sensor.You might have to shop around to find something that fits your needs.I think I would ask my land lord if you can change the locks and even try to find one of these security sytems,to go along with the locks.If you are like me making it hard for someone to enter,which new locks would do makes it a bit easier to relax,and I think that would be my approach to your land lord explaining that you dont feel safe.And again if you are paying for it they shouldnt have a problem with it.This is an improvement and they are put in correctly there will be no damage.

Q: Do home security alarm systems really deter criminals?


A: In my experience,yes, especially as concerns residential burglars. It's a matter of minimizing risk, why take the house with the alarm when there is less risk in choosing one that isn't alarmed. Burglars expect commercial property to be alarmed, so if they can';t disable it they count on a fast in and out before the police arrive. I had an attempted break in at my house last year. As soon as the sensors went off the offenders ran away. I wasn't home, but they didn't get anything.

Q: where do you buy fake security alarm system signs?
I've read that having a fake sign of a security alarm system is a deterrant to thiefs, but where can you buy those?

Q: Does anyone know how to disable the security alarm system on 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
My security system has finally taken over the jeep. It will no longer disable from the passenger door key lock. It has the entire car down. I was told there was a "black box" somewhere that needed to be removed but can't locate it. Thanks for immediate help as car in now inoperable.

A: Underneath your hood, there is a "box" with your plug in relays...black box is in there. It was same in Cherokee XJ's too...you had to put it in neutral with key in sometimes to get it to start. They suck... You will have to replace the relay, check with Auto Zone or Kragen. They have dealt with those before, Im sure. Thanks!

Q: Can you install a security alarm system in a rental?
I know that usually it depends on the private landlord but I live in a rental community. Doesnt say anything bout that in the lease. I don't want to ask because they might say no and I'll just do it anyway. I still dont want them to suspect though. The lease says whatever you have in the apartment must be out by the end of the lease...Hmmm, so does the alarm count? Need some advice...What do you guys think?

A: It depends on the type of alarm. Many now are not invasive at all, completely wireless. Take a cruise thru your community I'd be surprised if no one else had one up. Though some modifications may not be allowed I would think it would be safe to ask about this. If they denied you the right to put something up for your safety THEY would be liable for any harm or loss of yours. I would think you would have to remove it. The alarm companies may have done some installs already in your community. Do it if you need it to be safe. Be aware the alarm companies usually have a length of time you have to be signed up for.

Q: Any suggestions for how to install a security alarm system in a rent home or apartment?
I am aware of the wireless systems, but I still need ideas on installing the control pad, etc to avoid drilling or nailing in the wall. Thanks

A: SALTNPEPPER, Nearly 2 years ago I had someone try to break into my home. It was late at night and the I had the lights off, but I wasn't yet asleep. I heard a noise at the back door. I sneaked into the living room and switched on the outside lights. It scared the burgler and I saw him run off. . I then called a couple alarm companies in my area and they all gave installation and monitoring quotes. Q: Is there a way to turn on an adt security system alarm without monitoring?
I am leasing a business space with an ADT alarm system in it, but it is not activated. I was just wondering if anyone knows how to turn on the alarm part of it without having to be monitored by ADT, there are neighbors here by the business that would call the cops as fast as ADT, I just need the alarms.

A: You will need a user manual for your particular model so you can set the codes to activate it, etc. Ask ADT or the manufacturer of the alarm or the owner of the store for a copy. Worst come to worst, activate it with ADT for a couple of months, so they can help you set it up and then cancel it.

A: I think car alarms do proctect your car. Get an alarm with ignition shutoff switch. You might want to get a VIPER alarm system. Viper i believe is best in the market for car alarms.

Trying to change the alarm code for our home security system. We have a Westinghouse keypad and an ADT monitoring service.

A: Call ADT and see if they have a record of what alarm model you have and if you can get a manual or where you can get one. Also, some of these companies can change your code from their monitoring station. You may be referred to the company that installed your system.

A: i own a repair shop,and it would be better to just pull the fuse for it,,this works a lot better ,trying to take it off,or disabling it,,can also disable the car from running sometimes,,id try pulling the use for it first,,good luck,i hope this help,s.
