i have a homeland security surveillance system & i dont know how to hook the moniter up to the vcr so i can record everything when im gone. the cameras are outside & already hooked up to the moniter inside. i dont know how to record what i see on the moniter to a vcr. i lost my book for this system. so i need to find out how to record because my house almost got broke into tonite.
A: Should be pretty simple. Take the yellow RCA connector from your camera that is connected to your monitor and connect it to the Yellow connector for Video IN on your VCR. Take the yellow TV out connector from your VCR to the Monitor Yellow Video IN. Unless your camera uses some special connectors like BMC or SMC connectors. You will have to buy adapters for the connectors. Try Radio Shack first for adapters.

Q: How come the Pentagon has the poorest security camera's in the nation?
Camera's that only take 4 frames a second and can't even catch an airplane on tape. My local K-mart store has a better security and surveillance system than the Pentagon does. Is this the way Donald Rumsfield "wanted" it?
A: Those security cameras were never intended to capture a high-speed object. Neither are the ones at your local K-mart.
Security cameras/recorders operate at a low frame rate to allow storage of the images over a long time span. Higher frame rates mean much greater storage requirements for the data.
If you want to accuse Rumsfeld of something, provide the evidence that he ordered those particular cameras, perhaps to replace better, higher-speed cameras...
Q: What camera surveillance systems are safe?
I have recently been looking into home security, surveillance cameras. I don't know much about cameras and I was looking mostly because I believe we have had people snooping around our house every now and then checking things out. I know I heard voices the other night and I am very worried. I am also afraid however that other people can log into my system and watch me. After all if I can watch if on my pda or computer doesn't that mean that anyone can watch me? And if anyone knows anything about good camera systems or what brand is good or anything like that please tell me im in the dark.

I want to set up a wireless security camera monitor system for my house. What and what do I need to do this. I want a system that is pretty much hidden, uneasily detectable, possibly stuck in the ceiling or wall and if possible inviscible and wireless. What and what equipments do I need to achieve this. What do I need to buy? Can I use my present computer monitor for this or do I need a special kind of monitor. I guess this is a technical question for computer oriented guys. A: Go to radio shack, get a motion activated camera. Some are quite small. Are you trying to catch someone in particular? If not, try ADT.
Q: How bad can addiction to surveillance security camera monitoring become?
We installed a security camera at our business for about a year, I feel like I constantly have to be checking it and it replaced my normal viewing of television and radio. If the system goes down, I get anxious and scared that I don't see what is happening. I can't read or do any other work as long as I hear at least the white noise from the security camera then i am ok. I could be enjoying myself by listening to music, but no I have to hear every word they are saying. It's taken over my life and I can't turn it off. Anyone else has this experience?
A: I once heard of drug dealers using these on their houses because they wanted to know if the cops where there or not... this could be a classic case of paranoia... now that its past routine and a habit... it becomes life to you... you must break the habit quickly...
have you ever had any problems since these sec cams were installed? maybe hire someone else to do it for you... if at all possible i would offer my services over secured internet remote access till you can handle it again... 6 to 12 mths of doing something becomes a habit and part of life at 12 mths...
the key is to NOT have access to the cameras at your location. you will need a detailed report as to who is doing what and when. the military uses this for every minute of every day as a log. you can have digitalized documented reports daily.

i want to install a home security system. is wireless or wired best, 2 cams outside and maybe 3 in. need imfo. on what kind to purchase.
A: Hi,
First thing to remember is that most cameras are not completely wireless as you still need to wire power to them. If you are using wireless cameras, the only advantage is you can run power to the nearest point instead of a cable all the way to where the recorder is.
1) Analogue wireless - regular cctv cameras, these are the cheapest option, however, they are prone to interfrence and when you estimate the distance, double it, e.g if real distance is 50m, opt for a 100m camera. Walls and obstructions reduce the range. Watch out for the cheap chinese ones, they tend to blow real quick.
2) IP Wireless Cam - the best option, less prone to interference, excellent image quality, and can perform more functions with it. If you have a PC already, you will not have to buy a recorder. These cameras can record up to HD quality. Drawback is that these cameras tend to be more expensive.
For outdoor cameras, you need to consider lighting, if there is not enough light at night, consider cameras with Infra Red Night vision.
So as usual, its quality against price! Personally if prefer wired cameras, but if you have the money, go for wireless IP cameras.

Q: Do you need a license to install surveillance cameras in Texas?
Does anyone know if you need a license from the state to install surveillance cameras in Texas? I have heard you need a low voltage license or a security system license but can't find anything at the state level stating this. If anyone knows for certain I would appreciate it.

A: You need a license to install alarm or security systems systems in Texas. You can install a system in your own home or business without a license unless it notifies the police when activated. This includes cameras. When I was a kid a buddy and I sold cheap alarms for about a year before we learned we had to be licensed - in Texas. Back then you went to Austin and took an easy test and gave them some money. Nowadays they have 4 or 5 classes of security licenses depending on what services you offer.
